A basic guide to Licence Free PMR446 radios: Which type do I require?- License free PMR446 radio can be split down into these three groups: Consumer PMR446 - consisting of basic low cost twinpacks usually used for light consumer applications family on holiday, out shopping or cycling, motorcycling & other recreational activities. Example: Max-446.Light Business PMR446 - Office based applications where radios are looked after and not dropped or made to work in dirty environments schools gyms, the smaller warehouses. Example: tti TX-1446.Business PMR446 - These can be likened to professional licensed Private Business Radios and are basically the same but have been designed to operate within the 8 legal PMR446 frequencies. They have additional digital codes which allow them to be more resistant to interference from other users. Business PMR446 radios are often used on construction sites, schools, golf clubs and for agricultural applications - just about anywhere a robust licensed free two way radio is needed. Example: Motorola XTNI.
