Effective night vision used to be limited to the military and special effects in films. But things have come further than the early days of the Gen-0 British "Tabby" German "VAMPIR" and the US "Snooperscope". Many people would ask "What do I need an NVD for?" some of the most popular applications have been for:

Site security. When making rounds an NVD allows you to quickly check on a fence's integrity and to see if there is anyone waiting for you to move on. This is particularly useful for larger sites like farms and garden centres or where security is needed to remain covert

Wildlife observation. Most nocturnal animals will either freeze or bolt when they see a light, using an NVD means that you can see them behaving naturally even if you use the built in InfraRed illuminator even normally shy animals such as foxes and deer will approach within meters.

Astronomy. Using a higher magnification NVD such as the NVM-80 can show you stars and nebulae which are sometimes too faint to be seen with the naked eye.
