October 2020 – Tech Updates:
In spite of the wild year that we’ve been having, there has been no slowing in the progress of the Mobile Radio & Communication Network industry.
Although, without the usual conventions and exhibitions to attend, the recent progression hasn’t been broadcasted and displayed as it would usually.
Therefore, this October newsletter will give you an idea of what’s occurred in the industry throughout the course of this year.
Although, despite the year in events being categorically ‘uneventful’, we have witnessed many significant updates.
Here are some of the most poignant developments for both businesses and personal solutions:
5G Networks in the UK
In May 2019, telecoms companies Vodaphone & EE began offering their first 5G network package to customers. However, 5G coverage is not yet widespread & thus not readily available to everyone that might benefit from it.
Since then, all major UK networks have rolled out their own 5G packages although, again, coverage is limited and is only available in selected areas.
In Leeds, BT have teamed up with Leeds City council in order to provide ‘full-fibre connectivity’ which aims to reach every school in the district, 293 council-owned buildings & 156 NHS buildings across Leeds.
Much like what is happening in leads, more and more businesses across the country will start implementing 5G networks for their business networks & services. This will, in turn, speed up business processes and enable for better efficiency and network consistency across the board.
APD & Home Office
APD communications have been contracted by the Home Office to develop critical software for the forthcoming Emergency Services Network. This is intended to replace the UK’s existing TETRA-based Airwave network.
APD is the first ever supplier to be contracted to deliver Emergency Services Network integration, which is excellent news as it will pave the way for individual services and agencies to undergo a managed migration to new advanced communications networks.
Intelligent connectivity for UK businesses
UK telecoms companies are working on launching a new managed software defined wide-area network service for UK businesses.
This will enable secure, high-bandwidth connections across multiple sites using fixed and mobile networks.
In turn, this simplifies complicated network infrastructures and provides customers with complete visibility across their networks, allowing them to optimise traffic to suit business needs.
This will replace the complexity of traditional networks with one smart, secure network. As a result, customers can mitigate network threats, make more informed decisions and boost efficiencies to help improve business performance.
