ATEX (Intrinsically safe)
ATEX Approved Intrinsically Safe E Ex i b ll C T4 Compliance with the ATEX Directive is now a legal requirement in all European member states. Only portable radios type approved to the ATEX Directive are regarded as intrinsically safe in EU/EFTA countries. This does not apply to mobile offshore units, and shipping vessels over 500 gross tons as they are covered by IMO convention.
Vertex VX-820 Series – VX-821 ATEX approved radio
The Vertex VX-820 Series consists of 4 radios and one of those radios is the VX-821 Atex. It is an Atex version of the VX-821.
It is Atex certified to the II 2 G E Ex ib IIC T4 class. This means it can be used in hazardous environments where fire and explosions are a risk as it protects against gas. The Atex version of the VX-821 is a compact, robust radio that has been designed to work in the extreme conditions.

Icom IC-F51 / F61 ATEX
Atex approved rating: II2G EEx ib IIA T3
The Atex version of the IC-F51 / F61 is a waterproof transceiver. It has the same IP rating as all of the Icom handheld marine products and that is IPX7. This means it can be submerged in 1m depth of water for up to 30 minutes. The IC-F51 / F61 Atex version meets the requirements for use in hazardous areas such as oil rigs, areas where flammable gases or liquids are used and other areas at risk to explosions.
