Having taken place across the late May-bank holiday this year, Chesham Fringe Festival brought a vibrant array of local, national and international talent to the Buckinghamshire town. Festival goers enjoyed performances of music, poetry, comedy and theatre.
This exciting event took place at a number of locations surrounding Chesham’s town centre from the Elgiva Theatre and Chesham United Football Club to local pubs and cafes.
The Festival and Maximon Solutions
Getting in early with the planning, organisers of the event approached us early in the year for a solution to their communication needs to cover them throughout the May bank holiday weekend.
Their main obstacle that needed to be over-come, was the vast size of built-up area that they wanted covering. As with all radios, their range is effected by the environment in which they are being used. Wide open spaces like a field or hill-top to hill-top create the ideal environment, whereas busy areas with lots of infrastructure such as buildings, or even large crowds that gather for a festival can have an impact on coverage.
In the weeks leading up to the festival, we spent time speaking with event organisers to better understand the functionality of radios they were looking for, and learning of the areas they needed coverage.
The organisers smartly took advantage of our no-commitment demo, and tried a number of different radios, both on a back-to-back basis, as well as through a digital repeater.
As expected, given the centralisation to the town and built-up nature of Chesham, they found the best coverage was through licensed digital radios with a repeater to boost the signal.
A repeater acts almost like a middle-man relaying the message between radios that could not reach on a back-to-back basis.
The Solution
Maximon Solutions provided Chesham Fringe Festival with 30 two-way radios, 1 digital repeater, 5 six-way chargers and 30 compatible earpieces on a short-term hire.
The organisers opted for six-way multi chargers for ease and efficiency, these are popular for short term hires with a large quantity of radios as the access to electrical sockets can be near-impossible to cater for 30 individual chargers.
The earpieces provided allowed for all radio users to easily hear any communications coming over the radio in the loud and bustling environment that the Fringe Festival produces.
The radios and repeater provided were:

Pronto P-9400D Digital Radio

Hytera RD625 Digital Repeater
