The Impressive HMS Medway & Maximon Solutions
From Wooburn Green to the Caribbean.
The HMS Medway
The HMS Medway is a River Class offshore patrol boat, primarily stationed in the Caribbean. Named after the River Medway in Kent, this vessel was commissioned into the Royal Navy September 2019, just two years after her launch.
After arriving in the Caribbean at the start of 2020, the River Class joined Royal Fleet Auxiliary support ship RFA Argus to form a task group, offering nearby British Overseas Territories a range of support from disaster relief during the hurricane season to tackling all forms of illicit trafficking.
Our Involvement
Following a maintenance period in Gibraltar and a series of post refit sea-trials, servicemen in charge of the communications for the HMS Medway enlisted our knowledge to supply suitable hand portables to work alongside their existing system.
Requiring two-way radios that met ATEX approvals and were waterproof, the Icom IC-F61 was their top-pick of radio.

Icom IC-F61 ATEX
As they had an existing radio system, we were tasked with reading their radios and programming the new units to match the frequencies and tones on all channels. This ensured that their new units would continue to communicate with their existing ones.
The Icom IC-F61 is a compact and robust licensed handheld radio. Featuring an alphanumerical LCD display, voice scrambler and up to 128 memory channels.
Maximon Solutions is honoured to have the opportunity to supply two-way radios to the Royal Navy’s HMS Medway.
As a former British Army Serviceman, our Director takes pride in being offered the opportunity to continue working with the British Armed Forces.
